Minutes record preliminary meeting of company to be projected as Shrewsbury & Wolverhampton Railway Company. Subsequent meetings are of Shrewsbury Wolverhampton Dudley & Birmingham Railway Company and prospectuses were issued in that name. (See page 620 and statements of Shrewsbury & Wolverhampton, and Shrewsbury Wolverhampton Dudley & Birmingham railway companies on pages 718-720 of Railway Chronicle of 1844 - PER 10/1.)

Finance Committee minute book records meetings of Shrewsbury Wolverhampton Dudley & Birmingham Railway Company from 12th November 1844 but meetings became headed "Shrewsbury & Birmingham Railway" as from March 1845 - page 5.

Company finally became incorporated as Shrewsbury & Birmingham Railway Company under Shrewsbury & Birmingham Railway Act of 3rd August 1846. This company was amalgamated with Great Western Railway Company as from 1st September 1854 under Great Western, Birmingham & Chester Railways Consolidation Act 7th August 1854.
