Description:

Folios 451-452: Man [Mann] Dobson, Regulating Captain, Bristol. He is sending a letter from Lieutenant Rubidge and a petition from Mary Parfet on behalf of Henry Parfet now on board HMS Enchantress. When the Lieutenant arrived there he ordered him to open a Rendezvous at Pill where doubtless he will succeed in raising men. If his request that Henry Parfet is discharged from HMS Enchantress to be replaced in his gang he believes his local knowledge will be very useful.

Folios 435: enclosure with folios 451-452. Letter dated 7 May 1815 from Mary Parfet, Pill, to Captain Dobson. Henry Parfitt who belonged to the impress service at Pill is now detained on HMS Enchantress at Kingroad. His exertions in obtaining men has won him enemies and he was informed against as being a deserter from HMS Pyramus, long since out of commission. He admits he belonged to that ship as Quarter Master and overstayed his leave on shore. Fearing the consequences of going on board again he left the service and forfeited wages and prize money due. He wishes to remain in the impress service at Pill. The Lieutenants there wish him to stay because his active services in the boat are necessary and also to convince his enemies that despite them he is still determined to do his duty.

Folio 454: enclosure with folios 451-452. Letter dated 10 May 1815 from Lieutenant Rubidge, Impress Service, Pill, to Captain Man Dobson, Bristol. Henry Tudor Parfitt entered his gang on 26 April [1815] and was the greatest use due to his zeal and local knowledge during the short time he was with him. When he was discovered to be a deserter he was sent on board HMS Enchantress. Asks for him to be restored to his gang as he firmly believes he will discharge his duty and will be an acquisition for the impress service.
