Description:

Folios 437-438: Honourable Henry Blackwood, 46 Wigmore Street, Cavendish Square. He had asked for remuneration for transporting French Officer prisoners from Corsica and Palma Majorca to Minorca. [ rest of letter unable to be read as it is folded and bound into binding] from Lisbon to L'orient. He asks for the decision to be reconsidered as he is the loser in carrying out the service.

Folios 438-439: enclosure with folios 437-438. On 15 May 1812 Captain Blackwood transported 86 French Officers and 40 servants as ordered by Sir E[dward] Pellew, from Majorca to Minorca. They were on board for 7 days at a cost of £100. Similar cases which were refused were Captain Byng, HMS Goree, carrying passengers from Nova Scotia; Captain Joyce, HMS Amazon, carrying Spanish Officers; Captain Somerville, HMS Rota, carrying Spanish Officer to England; Captain Galway, HMS Dryad entertaining officers below the rank of General off the coast of Spain; Captain Dunn, HMS Armide, bringing Mr Sydenham from Lisbon; Lieutenant Ramsay bringing Spanish Oficers from Buenos Aries; Officers of HMS Jalouse for entertaining artillery Officers; Lieutenant of HMS Princess Augusta for carrying a secret agent; Captain DeCorney for bringing the Vice Consul from Brazil; Lieutenant Vallobre for bringing a Consul to Algiers and another from there to Malta; Sir George Collier for bringing Spanish Generals and Officers from Corruna to Biscay without orders; Officers of HMS Amiable for bringing French Officers to Leith. Requests for remuneration which were granted were Captain M[?] £250 for 2 Spanish Generals; Lieutenant Green, HMS Steady, £40 for a Spanish Colonel from Ay to Legge; Captian Brown, HMS Hermes, £40 for Spanish Officers brought home; Sir George Collier £80, for General Carrol on the coast of Spain; Captain Blackwood for carrying the Governor of the Balearics and his sister; Captain Milner, HMS Gorgon, £50 for bringing General Ruffin to England; Captain Daniel , HMS Doterel for the Governor of Cuidad Roderigo.
