Incorporated by Oswestry and Newtown Railway Act 26th June 1855.

Earliest Share Registers and Minute Books record name as "Oswestry Welshpool and Newtown Railway Company," but Act of Incorporation, though cited therein as "Oswestry Welchpool and Newtown Railway Act 1855," sets forth that Company shall be incorporated by name of "Oswestry and Newtown Railway Company," and at first meeting of Directors on 30th June 1855 after passing of act, new name is recorded.

By Cambrian Railways Act 25th July 1864, company together with (1) Oswestry Ellesmere and Whitchurch Railway Company, (2) Llandiloes and Newtown Railway Company, and (3) Newtown and Machynlleth Railway Company, was dissolved and constituted one undertaking by name of Cambrian Railways, which was amalgamated with Great Western Railway as from 1st January 1923 by virtue of Railways Act 19th August 1921.
