Incorporated under act of 31st July 1868. Under Isle of Wight Central Railway Act of 1887, Isle of Wight (Newport Junction) Railway; Cowes & Newport Railway; and Ryde & Newport railway companies were amalgamated from 1st July 1887 to form Isle of Wight Central Railway Company.

Isle of Wight Central Railway Company was transferred to and absorbed by London & South Western Railway Company at midnight on 31st December 1922 under London & South Western Railway (Southern Group) Preliminary Absorption Scheme 1922 dated 23rd December 1922. London & South Western Railway Company became part of Southern Railway Company from 1st January 1923 under Railways (Southern Group) Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 22nd December 1922.
