Administrative / biographical background:

Incorporated under Hull South Bridge Act 30th June 1862. Under Hull South Bridge Amendment Act 30th June 1862, North Eastern Railway Company, and Dock Company at Kingston upon Hull were authorised to subscribe to undertaking, and under this Act and Hull Docks Act of 1877 certain powers, rights and privileges with reference to Hull South Bridge were vested in Dock Company at Kingston upon Hull. This Dock Company was, under North Eastern Railway (Hull Docks) Act 1893, dissolved and amalgamated with North Eastern Railway Company as from 1st July 1893 and such powers rights and privileges with reference to Hull South Bridge Company became vested in North Eastern Railway Company, q.v. North Eastern Railway Company eventually became holders of all shares in Hull South Bridge Company.

The Bridge was permanently closed on 31st December 1934 and discussions as to dissolving the company took place between 1935 and 1937, opinion of Counsel (Geoffrey de C. Parmiter) being given on this and other questions on 17th February 1936, in which he expressed view that company was an unregistered company and as such should be wound up, though difficulties might arise owing to limited powers conferred by act of 1862. He advised petition for winding up to be presented to Chancery. This procedure was not, however, followed and matter lapsed. Company was, however, eventually dissolved as from 6th August 1947 by virtue of Section 68 of London & North Eastern Railway Act of 6th August 1947.
