The Exeter and Crediton Railway Company was incorporated by act of 1st July 1845.

The company was leased by London and South Western Railway Company as from 1st January 1862 and purchased by them under powers conferred by act of 13th July 1876; amalgamation took effect in 1879.

London & South Western Railway Company became part of Southern Railway Company as from 1st January 1923 under Railways (Southern Group) Amalgamation Scheme dated 22nd December 1922.
