The Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway Company was incorporated under an act of 1st August 1861.

Under act of 29th June 1863, the London and North Western and Stockton and Darlington railway companies entered into working agreements with Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway Company and a joint committee was appointed to carry such agreements into effect.

The Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway Company was vested in London Midland and Scottish Railway Company as from 1st January 1923 under London Midland and Scottish Railway Preliminary Absorption Scheme 1923 dated 3rd April 1923.
