The Burry Port and Gwendreath Valley Railway Company was incorporated under the Kidwelly and Burry Port Railway Act 5th July 1865.

The Burry Port Railway Company was dissolved under the Kidwelly and Burry Port Railway and Burry Port Amalgamation Act of 30th April 1866 and was vested in Kidwelly and Burry Port Railway Company from that date, the name Kidwelly and Burry Port Railway Company being changed to Burry Port and Gwendreath Valley Railway Company.

The company was absorbed into Great Western Railway Company as from 1st July 1922 under Great Western Railway (Western Group) Preliminary Absorption Scheme (No.2) 24th July 1922.
