In the following year, the London & Brighton Railway Company purchased Brighton & Chichester Railway Company with all its rights, powers and privileges and the Brighton & Chichester Railway Company was dissolved. Section 5 of the Act provided that the company "shall be well and effectually vested in London Brighton & South Coast Railway".
