The Birmingham and Derby Junction Railway Company was incorporated under the Birmingham and Derby Junction Railway Act of May 1836.

In 1844, under an act of 10th May 1844, the Birmingham & Derby Junction Railway Company, the Midland Counties Railway Company, and North Midland Railway Company were consolidated and incorporated into the Midland Railway Company.
