This series contains records of the Industrial Policy Group of HM Treasury (ISSP prefix files). The following areas were the preserve of the Industrial Economics Division of the Industrial Policy Group. These records comprise discussions about: supply side measures to improve markets and generate enterprise; competition policies including mergers, monopolies, privatisation and restrictive trades practices; small firms; 'The Impact of Government on Industry' review of governmentally imposed burdens upon industry; industrial relations; inflation accounting; coordination of HM Treasury interest in company legislation; corporate taxation (industrial aspects); enterprise zones. The following areas were the preserve of the Employment and Pay Division of the Industrial Policy Group. Pay and Prices (general aspects); monitoring of current policy pay and prices statistics; liaison with forecasters on future assumptions; advice on pay cases; liaison with expenditure divisions on implications of pay cases and on pay and prices assumptions on cash limits; coordination of HM Treasury interest in Civil Emergency arrangements; Bank Holidays. Planning and control of public expenditure relating to employment, including Department of Employment (excluding Incomes Policy and industrial relations); Manpower Services Commission; Advisory, Conciliatory and Arbitration Service and the European Economic Community social fund. The ISSP prefix denotes 'Industrial Supply Side Policy'. |
