Details of PROB 22
Reference: PROB 22
Title: Prerogative Court of Canterbury: Supplementary Wills, Series III
Description:

Wills lodged with the registry of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury for safe keeping. It is unlikely that any of the wills were proved.

Although they range in date from 1782 to 1851 none of the wills in PROB 22 were brought into the Court earlier than 1827 and the majority of them date from the 1820s and the subsequent two decades of the nineteenth century.

The wills in appear to have been gathered together in the 1850s, and labelled 'wills brought in for safe custody etc. from the year 1827 to the present time'. It may be presumed that none of the wills in were granted probate. Grants of administration were however passed on some at least of the estates in question.

Some of the wills in were lodged by executors renouncing their rights to execute the will in question.

Includes a few items which may once have been kept in the bundles in PROB 31 and PROB 33.

Date: 1782-1851
Arrangement:

The first date in the date column is the date that the will was made. Dates in brackets are the dates when the will was brought into the registry of the Court.
