Description:

Folios 21-28B. Papers relating to Mrs McCoy, widow of Captain Alexander McCoy who died in the East Indies. Letter [undated] [folios 22-23] to John Blackburn from John Pybus seeking his help in obtaining a government pension for Mrs McCoy and her 2 daughters. Also letter of 25 January [folios 24 and 28B] to Blackburn from Pybus with enclosures. Enclosed is a letter [folios 25-26] to Mrs McCoy from [Rear-Admiral] Sir Richard King stating his opinion as to the cause of McCoy's death and testifying to his excellence as an officer. Also enclosed is the certificate [folios 27-28A] of James Anderson and James Malcom, surgeons, as to the circumstances of McCoy's death on or about 7 January 1782 following the siege of Negapatnam [Nagapattinam].
