RUSSIAN LIBERATION ARMY (RLA). Formed during the Second World War on territory occupied by the Germans, the RLA's aims were to overthrow the Soviet regime, restore nationalist Russia and make an 'honourable peace' with the Germans. It was led by Lieutenant General A A Vlasov and according to one German estimate was 30,000 strong, recruited mainly from Red Army deserters and prisoners of war |
