A businessman in Rotterdam, SCHUT made a series of visits to Britain in 1939 during which according to the Dutch he recruited a source of information in the North East of England who provided details of gun emplacements in the Tyneside area. Separately he was reported to have sought information during these visits about ship-building. After the war he was arrested in the Netherlands on a charge of espionage against the UK
