Title: Palatinate of Lancaster: Chancery Court: Exhibits
Description:

Until the Courts Act 1971 the Chancery Court of the County Palatine of Lancaster operated independently from the High Court in London, and had jurisdiction in all matters of equity concerning lands lying within the Palatinate. Most of the records in this series were exhibited in evidence by parties to action heard by the court. They consist mainly of deeds and accounting records, and over half of them relate to a suit, commenced in 1819, regarding a dispute concerning coal mines at Hopwood and Hathershaw Moor in Lancashire. The series also includes some miscellaneous material arising from court proceedings, including minutes, cause lists, etc, 1835 to 1858.
