BUSH successfully combined work as an internationally known musician (pianist), lecturer, composer and organizer of musical events, with a long career as an influential Communist party member. He was active in numerous Communist-controlled or affiliated organisations, particularly those with a musical or cultural bias, a generous contributor to Party funds and a frequent visitor to Soviet Bloc countries, notably Russia and East Germany
