Description: |
Paul BERNAU, alias Kurt BARTLING: German. BERNAU arrived in Britain in 1941 claiming that he had escaped from Occupied Holland via France and Spain where he also claimed he had previously fought on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War. Initial interrogation failed to dispel suspicions that he was concealing the truth about his background and loyalties, and he was further interrogated at Camp 020. These doubts remained unresolved and BERNAU was detained on the Isle of Man until 1945 |
