A member of the Communist Party in the USA from the early 1940s to 1947 and involved with organisations cited by the Committee on Un-American Activities, LOSEY arrived in the UK in 1952 to work as a producer and film director. Many papers in the file are concerned with the approval of his remaining in the UK, where he maintained his left-wing connections but was not actively involved with the Communist Party
