| Description: | This dataset comprises data from the final version of the Museums and Galleries Commission's DOMUS database. It is significantly different from the two earlier DOMUS having been shaped by the following key developments which took place between the transfer of the second DOMUS dataset in 1999 and the transfer of this dataset in 2002-2003: 1) The merger of the DOMUS database and the MGC's Registration Scheme database in 1998-1999, as part of the MGC's aborted Core Database project. 2) The decision by the MGC's successor, Resource, to commission an investigation of the DOMUS database, after Resource had suspended the DOMUS survey. The UK Museums Retrospective Statistics Projects were undertaken in 2001 by LISU in collaboration with Sara Selwood (University of Westminster). The project used a copy of the merged DOMUS and Registration Scheme database which was supplied to LISU by Resource on 12 June 2001. The dataset reflects the state of the database following the UK Museums Retrospective Statistics Projects. The dataset comprises 42 tables. A number of tables in the dataset have overlapping functions, or functions which are unclear, reflecting the incomplete nature of the Core Database project. |
