Title: | Coast Protection Survey of England: 1997 update dataset |
Description: |
This dataset relates to the 1997 update of the Coast Protection Survey of England. Unlike the 1995 and 1996 updates, respondents were not asked to update the general data on defence elements. Instead, they were only asked to update information on defence elements whose condition had been classified as"Class 4" (i.e. likely to require capital works within the next five years). Data on Class 4 elements is held in the Form_d_97 table. Although the dataset also includes Length and Element tables, any changes to the data in these tables from the previous update will mainly reflect changes made by the survey contractor as a result of new information received about Class 4 defences. In some cases changes were also made because respondents voluntarily updated their defence length and element data, or forms for the 1996 update were received late. Although known as the"1997 update", the data was actually gathered in 1998 and was meant to reflect the situation on 1 March 1998.
The main tables in the dataset are the Length_97, Element_97 and Form_d_97 tables, which contain data relating to defence lengths, defence elements and"Class 4" defence elements respectively. In addition, the Access 97 version of the Coast Protection Survey of England database included a large number of lookup tables. These have been included in this dataset, although they did not relate exclusively to the data tables for the 1997 update. For further information about this survey, see the series catalogue. |
