Description:

This dataset provides information relating to journeys made and vehicles used by heavy goods hauliers in the course of their work in 1994 as recorded by the Continuing Survey of Road Goods Transport. Details relating to journeys include journey type i.e. whether it was a single or a multistop journey (comprising of 1 to 4 stops) or whether it was a journey comprising of more than 4 stops. It includes information concerning when the journey took place, its origin, destination, whether it was a journey to and from docks; type and weight of commodity, whether the goods carried are dangerous; distance travelled while empty and loaded, length of haul and commodity class. Details relating to vehicle include date vehicle acquired, its annual mileage, traffic area, year of registration, vehicle and trailer body type, whether it was a tipper, whether a draw bar trailer was used on any journey, fuel type, fuel purchased or used from own supply, retractable axles used, region of registered keeper, type of business; unladen weight of tractive unit and trailer; number of axles of tractive unit and trailer; public or own account; annual mileage; average fuel consumption; wheel plan code, taxation class, reason for non-use, maximum gross train weight when under a special types general order (STGO) and trips made to carry abnormal loads under STGO. The dataset includes the date the questionnaire was input to VAX; date information was input; questionnaire logger code and date questionnaire was last amended. It also includes details regarding deliveries and collections.

The dataset consists of four tables: JOURNEY (journey information), VEHICLE (vehicle information), MULTISTP (1 to 4 stop journeys), MULTITRP (multi stop journeys).
