Peter H BERGSON alias KOOK/COOK: Palestinian, formerly Lithuanian. The son of a Lithuanian rabbi, KOOK/BERGSON had a long history of involvement in Zionist extremist activity. In 1929 he was allegedly involved in anti-Arab rioting in Palestine. Moving to the United States in 1936 or 1937 he became Chairman of the Hebrew Committee for National Liberation, an organisation with affiliates in Europe which BERGSON visited in 1946/1947. In June 1948 he was arrested, together with Irgun Zvai Leumi (IRGUN) sympathisers, in connection with the attempted landings in Israel from the 'Altalena'. In March 1949 his American organisation was reported to be being wound up when BERGSON left to take up a seat in the Israeli Parliament |
