Description: |
(1) Charles John MOODY, (2) Gerta MOODY: British. Charles and Gerta MOODY were long term Communists. In the early 1930s Charles MOODY was involved in the distribution of anti-war propaganda to the Armed Forces. In 1950 the MOODYs came to the notice in connection with the case of Klaus FUCHS, the atom spy. FUCHS claimed that the emergency contact arrangements agreed with his Russian Case Officer involved the use of a package left in the garden of a Richmond (Surrey) house. The owner or tenant of this house was MOODY who lived there with his wife Gerty and her sister Claire ISAACS, also a Communist. It was concluded at the time that one or more of this trio must have been directly involved in this arrangement or at least aware of it. All were interviewed - MOODY several times - by the MI5 Interrogator Jim SKARDON, and denied any knowledge of the arrangement. The case remains unresolved |
