M/V REIDAR: Norwegian. This motor vessel arrived in Lerwick in January 1943 from German-occupied Norway with a crew of three, Arnold EVENSEN, Gunnar Bjorn PEDERSEN and Louis Normann WESTRUM. Intelligence from ISOS indicated ahead of Reidar's arrival that it was involved in an Abwehr espionage operation. After very extensive interrogation but within a relatively short time, it was decided that PEDERSEN and WESTRUM had had no involvement with the Abwehr and they were released to serve in the Norwegian forces. EVENSEN, who had admitted allowing himself to be recruited as an agent though with the intention of joining Allied ranks, was released later. Possible links with a SOE operation in Norway (LARK) are considered on the file |
