Description:

Joseph KING: British. In 1916 the New York Times published a letter to an American acquaintance from KING, then a Member of Parliament, in which he reported news of the destruction of a huge explosive store near Calais in a bombing raid. Evidence was found that the report, which was true, had been passed in turn to Germany from America. Eventually it was claimed in the German press as a major coup. KING was prosecuted for communicating information likely to be useful to an enemy and fined one hundred pounds
