Description:

Richard Stafford CRIPPS: British. A lawyer and an active Labour politician in the 1930's, CRIPPS was Ambassador to the Soviet Union during the Second World War and a member of the Labour Cabinet from 1945. A file was kept on him, the great majority of the papers on which date from before the Second World War, because his support for the ''Popular Front'' in the 1930's brought him into contact with the Communist Party. There is no suggestion that he himself was a Communist
