Folios 60-63. Letter from Thomas Berney Bramston of Skreens [MP for Essex] endorsing the enclosed petition and asking the home secretary to remove the convicts in Chelmsford gaol awaiting transportation as the gaol needed repairs due to constant attempts at escape. Enclosed is the petition of Christopher Kettle, sentenced to death in 1786, respited and left in Chelmsford gaol, seeking a pardon in view of his age, condition and conduct, supported by John Richard Comyns, prosecutor, John Morgan, chaplain, and Robert Purnell, keeper. Also enclosed is a list of convicts in Chelmsford gaol (Kettle and 14 others) giving name, date of committal, date of conviction, former sentence, present sentence, and crime.
