Description: |
John Wilson Croker. Are sending a report from the Resident Commissioner at Plymouth about the entry of Commissioned Officers' sons in the Ordinary to the prejudice of those of Warrant Officers. Draw attention to our letter of 8 Dec 1819 containing a recommendation of the Committee of this Board, which visited Sheerness that year, that no boys should be borne in Ordinary, who are not intended to go to sea at a proper age. We consider all boys in Ordinary liable to be sent to sea and that on their entry, preference is always given to sons of Seamen. |
