The papers give an indication of the great variety of subjects in which the minister became involved during his term of office including policy matters, copies of speeches, correspondence, official diaries and meetings with firms, individuals, other MPs and foreign ministers. Other subjects include agricultural schemes, animal and crop diseases, the fishing industry and papers concerned with the general work of the ministry. Few are earlier than 1945. |

The papers have been arranged strictly in the order in which they were kept by the private secretaries. They are arranged by subject rather than by minister, though a number are correspondence files with other ministers, MPs and interested organisations. This being so, date sequence has not always been maintained, and at times can be seen to over-lap. The papers have been filed in unregistered folders. |
