Description:
Content: Folio 24. Letter from T Watkins [Thomas Watkins], Clerk to the Guardians of the Cardiff Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, informing them that Mr John, the Relieving Officer of the Cardiff District, had caught typhus fever during the course of his duties in visiting the Irish poor. As a consequence the guardians were seeking the Commission's confirmation of the appointment of Mr William Lewis as a substitute during the illness of John, at a weekly salary of £2. It was noted that Mr Lewis had recently resigned the office of Relieving Officer of the Caerphilly District as he considered the salary to be too low. Annotated: sanction and request a further reference as to the state of Mr John's health. Paper Number: 8026/B/1847. See also Paper Number: 6132/B/1847. Poor Law Union Number 613.
