Description:

William Marsden. Thomas Evans, late an apprentice to his Shipwright father, has asked to be superannuated. He was entered in Deptford in November 1800 and served 2 years before his left thigh was broken in several places by a falling 4" plank, which he was helping to get onto the Narcissus. He was away from the yard for a year. When he returned he found he was unable to carry out his work and an order was given to discharge him. This is the only example of an apprentice being unable to do any work as a result of injury. Suggest he is considered for a pension worth half that a retired Shipwright would be entitled to.
