Content: Folio 50. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to W E Goodacre, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union. They acknowledge receipt of his letter of 3 March asking for advice on the powers of a paid collector of the poor rates under 7 & 8 Vict c 101; in particular in regard to dealing with summoning defaulters. They apologise for taking so long. The collector would have powers to take proceedings against defaulters by laying information before the magistrates; although they could report them to churchwardens, overseers and constables. Paper Number: 3086/B/1845. Poor Law Union Number 337. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
