Content: Folio 48. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to W E Goodacre, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union. They acknowledge receipt of his letter of 1 March relating to the case of Mary Vernon, Warsop, who has applied to emigrate to America to follow her husband. That her husband deserted her and her 3 children to go the New York the previous summer. The Commissioner advise against this course of action in cases of desertion. In addition the policy is for emigrants to be sent to as British colony. Paper Number: 3049/B/1845. Poor Law Union Number 337. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
