Content: Folios 46-47. Letter from Letter from W E Goodacre, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, relating to the case of Mary Vernon, Warsop, who has applied to emigrate to America. Her husband deserted her and her 3 children to go the New York the previous summer. The board are aware this is 'irregular... and generally unadvisable' in cases of desertion. The husband made proper application to emigrate the pervious year but the wife refused to go. The husband has written saying he is in 'prosperous circumstances'. The guardians would like to agree to the application. Paper Number: 3049/B/1845. Poor Law Union Number 337. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
