Reference: MH 12/9361/28
Description:
Content: Folios 43-44. Letter from Mr Weale [Robert Weale, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner] to ther Poor Law Commission, regarding the Mansfield Poor Law Union. He has visited Mansfield as requested by Edmund Head and looked at the correspondence and the minutes and cannot suggest any plans rectify the difficulties presented by the debts of Sutton-in-Ashfield. The report of the 12 March gives an accurate account of how the debt evolved. If this is referred to it can be seen that the bill due to the treasurer has always been considered to be due to him from the guardians and not from the parish of Sutton in Ashfield. That parish owes the board a sum exceeding that due to the treasurer prior to 2 May 1841. Why the treasurer should have opened a new account with the guardians in July 1841 is not understood. The amount of debts is discussed in detail. Heavily annotated by W G L [William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary to the Poor Law Commission]. Paper Number: 2712/B/1845. Poor Law Union Number 337. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
