Description:
Content: Folios 18-19. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to William Wilson, South Normanton, Alfreton, regarding the Sutton in Ashfield debt. The Commissioners have considered the letter sent to them on the 25 January 1845 and states that they 'feel unable to express any opinion' on what course it to be taken until they are furnished with a detailed statement of the case and until in their possession of the precise position of the matter with relevance to the accounts. They suggest bringing the neglect to the notice of the board with a view to the clerk being instructed to forward the Commissioners with such a statement, with a copy of the treasurer's annotation up to this point. Upon the second point on which their opinion is sought, they state that the Commissioners are of the opinion that overseers are not entitled to change their accounts by way of enumeration for time and labour in making out parliamentary returns. Such returns are incidental to the office which they fill, and for the performance of the duties of that office the Commissioners does not allow of them being recommended. Paper Number: 1311/B/1845. Poor Law Union Number 337. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
