Content: Folio 17. Letter from William Wilson, South Normanton, Alfreton, to the Poor Law Commission, marked 'Private'. He writes as vice chairman of the Mansfield Poor Law Union who often presides over the weekly meeting of guardians, and he now seeks advice. He refers to a debt incurred by Sutton in Ashfield to the union for 'several hundred pounds' but this is now reduced as this is now a separate account. He asks if the guardians can now pay off the debt in instalments by cheque, and if not what other methods are available to pay off this debt as they are 'anxious' that this should be paid it having been incurred in 'ignorance.' Asks whether overseers of a parish can legally makes changes to their accounts for making out the Parliamentary returns which often take a considerable time and effort to complete.
