Description:
Content: Folio 48. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to John D Taylor [John Dobede Taylor], Clerk to Guardians of the Bishops Stortford Poor Law Union, acknowledging receipt of the application for sale of parish property in Great Hadham and requesting that a copy or abstract of the earliest grant of the property be sent to the Commissioners. The Commissioners also state that they are not at present able to authorise payment of a debt of £65 from the proceeds of the sale, but an Act is due to be passed during the present session of Parliament which will enable them to do so. They therefore advise that the treasurer of the union retain a sufficient sum to discharge the debt. The Commissioners also state that they do not propose to extend the provision of the act to copyhold property belonging to a parish unless that property is required for use by the union in which the parish is located.
