Description:
Content: Folios 139-141. Letter from [Jos Blackstone], James Wood, Churchwardens, and S H Surplice and Josh Walker, Overseers, all of Beeston, to the Poor Law Commission. They understand from the Commission's letter of 15 February that the promissory note with originated the parishes debt to Mr Nixon should be sent to you prior to any order they would make. After consulting the overseers account it was found the debt was initially £350; details of payment from 1819 to 1831 are given. Nixon is willing to be paid by three instalments of £50 each annually to clear the debt. No security was given or found by the Trustees of the Poor's Charity at Beeston. Further details of payment are given. Reference is made to [Moore Maltby & Co]. Interest of £20 being the surplus arising from the sale of wood after redeeming the title at the enclosure in 1806-1807. The above £20 was lent to the overssers in July 1816. One and a half years interest was received in January 1818 by James Nixon; making the interest due in January. Also enclosed is a copy of the promissory note dated 9 February 1828, promising to pay James Nixon £200 with 5% interest. Signed John Wooley, Vicar; William Walker and Richard Harewood, Churchwardens; [James Hood] and William Roberts, Overseers; William Hammond, William Barber, Charles Cheetham and Edward Bones.
