Description:
Content: Folios 28-32. Petition to the 'Board of Commissioners [Poor Law Commissioners] and the Assistant Poor Law Commissioner of the Poor Law Amendment Act for the County of Buckingham', stating that the undersigned being inhabited ratepayers of the town of Olney and of the villages of Emberton, Filgrave, Tyringham, Sherington, Chicheley, Astwood, Hardmead, Brayfield, Newton Blossomville, Lavendon, Clifton Reynes, Weston Underwood, Ravenstone, Stoke Goldington and the hamlet of Warrington in the parish of Olney, have unanimously resolved that a union of the above places would be beneficial, and that their forming a part of the Newport Pagnell Poor Law Union would be injurious to the interests of the petitioners. They ask that they be allowed to form an independent union called the Olney Union. All the above mentioned places are within five miles from the town of Olney, which itself possesses a large and commodious building adequate to the objects of a house of industry and would be able to provide officers at a less expense than if joined with the union of Newport Pagnell, as well as possessing many local advantages separately from the Division of Newport Pagnell;
