Content: Folio 425. Letter from William Ashton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, asking their opinion on the case of Robert Burrows. Due to lack of work and the fact that his wife has been confined to a lunatic asylum he was unable to maintain his family. He was offered the workhouse but left his family chargeable and went to America. He now writes that if his family are sent at the expense of the parish he will maintain them. His wife, now discharged as cured, and her children are in the workhouse. Ashton asks if they can comply with Burrow's wishes. Paper Number: 6340/B/1841. Poor Law Union Number 334.
