Content: Folios 47-49. Letter from [Reverend] Stephen Clissold, Wrentham Rectory, Suffolk [to the Poor Law Commission], acknowledging their letter which confirms that they will act as arbiters between the board and proprietors and rate payers of various parishes to agree the sum chargeable for the survey and valuation, rate assessment and tithe commutation. The Commission are informed of the sum agreed. A circular, printed by W Wright, Printer of Wrentham, is enclosed, inviting medical practitioners in the Blything Poor Law Union and adjoining parishes to a conference 8 February at the Bulcamp House. They will be discussing the contracting of medical and surgical care for the paupers out of the workhouse as suggested in a work entitled 'An official account of the Parochial Charities and Public Trust Funds, belonging to each Parish, in the Blything Union'. Also included is an extract from that work stating that a sum will be agreed by the board for the medical care or health assurance of all paupers in the union. Properly qualified practitioners will invited to offer their services; paupers will be able to select a medical attendant. Each parish will pay its own medical relief under section 54 of the Poor Law Amendment Act. Paper Number: 939/A/1839. Poor Law Union Number 432. Counties: Suffolk.
