Content: Folios 376-377. Letter from Jeremy T Hird of Park Head, Arkengarthdale, Guardian of the Reeth Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board. He refers to 10 to 20 acres of common land occupied by the Arkengarthdale Mining Company and used for houses, machinery and ore washing, taking up all the herbage at the expense of the local farmers. The land is leasehold, owned by the lord of the manor, and no rent is paid. He asks if this land is liable to be rated to the poor or not.
