Description:
Content: Folio 68. Letter from Henry Edwards Paine, Clerk to the Guardians of the Rye Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, concerning medical contract districts. As requested by the Commission in its letter dated 14 March 1843 Paine sends a transcript of a minute of the Board of Guardians of the Rye Poor Law Union relevant to Medical District 3. The minute records that the guardians decided that although the area of District 3, which comprises the parishes of Beckley, Northiam and Brede, slightly exceeds the limit set by the Commission's medical order of 12 March 1842, the inmates of the Brede workhouse and the other paupers of the parishes would be best served if the district were defined as stated. This is because there is a medical man residing in each of the parishes of Northiam and Beckley who are much nearer to the paupers than any other in the union. Annotated: sanction and request that the queries be returned when appointments have been made. Paper Number: 2212/B/1843. Poor Law Union Number 484. Counties: Sussex and Kent.
