Content: Folio 55. Letter from Henry Edwards Paine, Clerk to the Guardians of the Rye Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission requesting a reply to his letter dated 30 January 1843 on the subject of the site for the new [Rye Poor Law Union] workhouse. That letter contained a copy of a resolution passed by the guardians after they had read the report of Dr Mackness [Doctor James Mackness, Physician to the Hastings Dispensary] on the suitability of the proposed site. Paine states that the guardians are fearful of the consequences of a delay in erecting a new workhouse. Annotated: send a copy of Curteis's [Edward Barrett Curteis] letter and ask for their observations before making a decision. Paper Number: 1866/B/1843. Poor Law Union Number 484.
