Content: Folio 288. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to W and E Willoby [William Willoby and Edward Willoby], Clerks to the Guardians of the Berwick-upon-Tweed Poor Law Union, headed 'Removal of Scotch Poor'. It refers to their letter of 30 December 1839, concerning the removal from Hastings to Berwick-upon-Tweed of Robert Patterson, wife and child. They have received from the clerk to the Hastings board of guardians, Sussex, an explanation. It enclosed an extract - see paper 1137/B/1840 - which stated the order was made under 4& 5 William IV c 40. The Commissioners also enclose a copy of the order under which the removal took place - 2506/B/1840. [Neither the extract nor copy of the order are present.] Paper Number: 28/A/1840.
