Description:
Content: Folios 281-282. Letter from W and E Willoby [William Willoby and Edward Willoby], Clerks to the Guardians of the Berwick-upon-Tweed Poor Law Union, to Edwin Chadwick, Secretary to the Poor Law Commission. It encloses a copy of a resolution, passed by the Board on 26 November 1839, concerning alteration on the order of proceedings of the board. It says that the business of the board would be greatly facilitated if applications of the paupers in attendance could be considered before business arising from the minutes of the previous meeting. They ask if as much of Rule 13 of the Order, dated 8 November 1836, can be annulled as necessary. Annotated: he can see no objection to the resolution which has been followed other places without asking the Commissioners to alter the original order. Suggests instead of making a formal order that he can deal with the matter informally. John Walsham [Assistant Poor Law Commissioner]. Paper Number: 9205/A/1839. Town and County of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland and North Durham [detached].
