Content: Folios 29-31. Letter from W and E Willoby [William Willoby and Edward Willoby], Clerks to the Guardians of the Berwick-upon-Tweed Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission regarding the affairs of the Poor Law Commission, and enclosing a copy of proceedings of the second meeting of the board of guardians, held on 30 November 1836. Enclosure: poroceedings of the second meeting of the board of guardians of the Berwick-upon-Tweed Union held at the Town Hall in Berwick-upon-Tweed on Wednesday 30 November 1836. Present were: Sir John Walsham, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner of the Poor Law [Commission], ex-officio Guardians: John [?] Orde, John Clay, John Nelson, Rev Joseph Barnes, John Miller Dickson, George Johnston, John Pratt. Guardians: Parish of Berwick-upon-Tweed: Joseph Fleming, Alexander Christison, Francis Forster, Thomas Hubback, John Hogarth and James Henry Innes. Parish of Ancroft: Alexander Thomson and Thomas Pinkerton. Parish of Cornhill: James Black. Parish of Holy Island: Richard Reavely. Parish of Kyloe: Thomas Scott. Township of Duddo: Alexander Laing. Township of Felkington: Robert Johnston. Township of Grindon: Ebenezer Black. Township of Horncliffe: Mark Thomson. Township of Longridge: John Paxton. Township of Norham Mains: William Cleghorn. Township of Shorewood: Nathaniel Dodds. Township of Thornton: Edward Makins. Township of Twizel: John Archbold. [All townships are in the parish of Norham.] Parish of Tweedmouth: James Laing, Adam Bell, William Marshall, John Alexander, William Fair. Township of Norham: Alexander Smith. It was resolved that Donald Sinclair be appointed Auditor, that James Blackett Atkinson, John Anderson and John Carmichael be appointed Relieving Officers of the Districts of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Islandshire and Norhamshire respectively. The amounts of security to be given by the relieving officers for the three districts were £200, £100 and £100 respectively. It was further resolved that the weekly meeting of the Board would be held in the workhouse in Berwick-upon-Tweed at the time previously decided on. Annotated: appointments confirmed.
